เท่าที่รู้มานะคะ นอกจากความแตกต่างระหว่าง American กับ British English แล้ว ก็จะมีรายละเอียดย่อยด้วย

1- มีความแตกต่างระหว่าง American English กับ British English โดยเฉพาะในภาษาพูด เพราะ American English ไม่ค่อยใช้ Perfect Tenses

I ate. (ทานข้าวไปแล้ว ตอนนี้อาจเริ่มรู้สึกหิว)

I have just/already eaten. (ทานไปแล้ว อาจเมื่อไม่นานมานี้ แต่ยังรู้สึกอิ่ม)

I just ate. (เป็น American English ที่หมายถึงได้ทั้ง 2 กรณีข้างต้น)

ใน British English จะไม่ใช้ just/already กับ Past Tenses ไม่ว่าจะเป็นภาษาพูดหรือภาษาเขียน

 อีกตัวอย่าง

I went to Thailand (when I was young).
เคยไปเมืองไทย แต่อาจเป็นตอนเด็กมากๆ ตอนนี้จำอะไรไม่ได้เลย อาศัยฟังจากที่พ่อแม่เล่า

I have been to Thailand.
เคยไปเมืองไทย แต่อาจเป็นตอนโตแล้ว เพราะยังพอจำรายละเอียดได้

อีกตัวอย่าง

I saw/watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret.
เคยดู แต่แทบจำเนื้อหาของเรื่องไม่ได้

I have seen/watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret.
เคยดู และยังพอจำเนื้อหาได้

2- เรื่องของคำศัพท์

ขอยกตัวอย่าง เรื่อง film/movie ที่เคยคุยกัน @BonnWarapol

We “saw” Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret last night. (ดูที่โรงเท่านั้น)

We “watched” Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret last night. (ดูที่อื่น เช่น บ้าน โรงเรียน ที่ทำงาน ฯลฯ)

We were “watching” Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret when you called. (กำลังดูอยู่ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นที่โรงหรือที่อื่นๆ)
Have you “seen” Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret?

Have you “watched” Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret?

กรณีนี้ (ถามว่า เคยดูหรือยัง) ที่เคยรู้มาตั้งแต่แรก จำเป็นต้องใช้ see

แต่ต่อมา สังเกตเห็นคนใช้ watch เลยเอาไปถามคนอเมริกัน และเค้าบอกว่า ความหมายเหมือนกันค่ะ
(และอาจเชื่อมโยงกับข้อ 1) ตอนนี้บางคนก็ไม่เห็นความแตกต่างระหว่าง 4 ตัวนี้แล้วค่ะ

Have you “seen” that film they talked much about?
